Welcome to the SCBS
Welcome to the Southern Conference on British Studies (SCBS), a regional branch of the North American Conference on British Studies (NACBS). The Conference meets annually, customarily in the Fall in conjunction with the Southern Historical Association. The meeting comprises two days of paper sessions with two or more panels running concurrently.

SCBS History Help!
Dear SCBS Members!--I've been asked to put together a short history of the SCBS, and I need your help! Do you know something about the founding of the group? Do you have strong memories that you can share - either of the early years or of more recent events? If so, please send me what you remember! Long emails are great, or we could arrange a phone call as well. I want your stories, and they will be shared with the full NACBS in an upcoming Broadsides post. I'm happy to share author credit on this also, if you would like to play a larger role in the process.
Please be in touch within the next week or two, and thanks for your help with this.
All the best,
Chuck Upchurch (SCBS Past President)

Congratulations to the 2025 Winners of the
Graduate Student Travel Awards!!!
Rasheed Hassan (Florida International University) and Aaron Hoggle (University of Alabama)! The selection committee was extremely impressed with the sophistication of both proposals and wishes them great success with their research.

Membership Information
The SCBS construes British Studies very broadly to include the history, literature, arts, and culture of the Home Islands and the Commonwealth. It welcomes into membership anyone interested in such subjects, whether or not pursued professionally.

Dues for the SCBS are $15 annually for regular membership, $10 for students, and $300 for a lifetime membership. As a courtesy, the Southern Historical Association extends the option of affiliate membership (non-voting) to members of the SCBS for $7. For those interested, full membership in the SHA’s European History Section is available.
All SCBS dues may be paid either through the SCBS Secretary/Treasurer or can be paid through our shop on this site.
